Reminiscent of the highlands of Scotland, the Falklands
are a temperate realm of windswept hills, fine white sands and dramatically
shaped cliffs. The archipelago is also an oasis for marine mammals and
nesting birds. In the capital of Port Stanley you can have a pint in the
local pub or visit the fascinating nautical museum.
In 1982, Argentina seized the Falklands and held them for two months until
surrender to the troops of Margaret Thatcher's Britain. |
