Amalfi is today one of the
most popular resorts and stopovers along the famed Amalfi Drive between
Salerno and Sorrento. Opulent villas cloaked in purple bougainvillea hide
behind high walls and wrought-iron gates. Around every turn spectacular
scenery awaits.
Pier
Information
The ship is scheduled to anchor off Amalfi. Guests will
be taken ashore via the ship’s tenders. The town lies just across the
street from the harbor. All of the town center should be explored on
foot. Taxis are generally available at the harbor if you wish to go
further afield. It is a good idea to establish the fare before leaving
the port.
Shopping
Souvenirs and handicrafts can be found all over town, as
well as attractive jewelry, shoes and leather wares. Shops are located
across from the waterfront and around the main square, Piazza del Duomo.
Many shops close between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The local currency is
the Euro.
Cuisine
Pizza and pasta dishes are always a good choice. Other
favorites include fresh seafood and scaloppini. Good local wines will
complement your meal nicely. You may want to try the terrace restaurant
at the Santa Caterina Hotel for lunch. This four star hostelry is known
for its well-prepared food, impeccable service and the fantastic views
from its location 150 feet above the sea. |
