Mykonos
appears as if it came straight off a tourism poster; it is one of the most
celebrated Greek holiday islands. Its main village of the same name as the
island is a colorful maze of narrow, paved streets lined with white-washed
houses, many with bright blue doors and shutters. As an attractive backdrop,
the famous windmills are lined up like toy soldiers on the hillside,
vestiges of a time when wind power was used to grind the island's grain.
Mykonos has some 365 churches and chapels scattered about the island.
Radiant flowers spill over white-washed walls and shady courtyards. Visitors
find endless shopping opportunities. You'll love Mykonos!
Shopping
The island is known for its excellent shops featuring local art,
hand-woven items, clothing, and jewelry. |
Cuisine
Try moussaka, a nice Greek wine, and baklava for dessert. |
Other Sights
Town and Churches. Be sure to stroll through the maze of
narrow, winding streets and step inside one of the numerous churches.
Beaches. If soaking up some sun is your preference, take
the bus from the upper city to Plati Yalos, and then a small boat to
Paradise, Super Paradise, or Elia. Super Paradise is for nude sunbathing
and swimming. |
